Just figured out why I came back
I am the mother of an AS who journeyed through a meth addiction and jail and prison- and he is currently doing well. He has been out of prison for 13 months, has a great job, and an even greater girlfriend. I came back to Sober Village a couple of days ago and at first I didn't really know why- today while at lunch with a friends, I told her that I was back because of my cousin Doug. It was when I said those words that I realized that is why I am here. My cousin Doug is 43 years old- an alcoholic - and I know he has been drinking again. He went through a really awful divorce a little more than a year ago and lost his job shortly after that. At my urging he moved closer to family- his Mom and I live near each other and he lived about 100 miles away. He is struggling financially and he misses his little boy alot. Doug is a completely different kind of person than my son was when he was using- Doug is gentle and his aura is of a completely sad and defeated person- it really tugs at my heartstrings. I definitely need to work a program again- I am a fixer of problems- and it is easy to go into "fix" mode for Doug.
So, I am glad to be back- it has been a long time!
