I chose to post this here...and I hope someone here can offer up something for me to pass on to my Aunt.
Come to find out she her families health coverage was cancelled for non-payment by her husband's employer and the guy never warned anyone, nor said a peep. She found out when she tried to fill a prescription. Let me say please that she lives in NH. Her husband asked his boss, and his answer has been complicated at best which tells me he is lying. I have to mention that my friend's husband had cancer, and needs his scans every 3 mths. Stage 4 colon cancer. Colostomy...and well, just not good news. My friend just had a total knee replacement, she has high blood pressure, is diabetic and has other health issues as well. What is worse, is it appears that they have not been covered since FEB of this year. BUT somehow Cigna told her that someone made a mistake when putting in the ID numbers for their ins. and things got paid, when in fact her knee surgery was not to of been paid for....and all of her husband's cancer treatments since then as well. The boss says don't worry, he is working on it. Cigna says don't hold your breath as far as getting this back right away. I do know the boss is filing some kind of bankruptcy and is going to give his company a new name and start over. I know with health care reform the new pre-existing clause won't come into play until 2014...WHAT is this family going to do. They have a mortgage....and property, so I am just saying that because if there is help out there, won't someone look at their assets? IS there help out there. Right now they don't have the cash to pay for their meds. They BOTH need many doctor appointments and no-one will see you without Ins. and the hospital program for the poor will not apply to them financially because on paper they make too much money for government assistance. BUT this could bankrupt them. ONE of her meds is 200 dollars alone!! Now, if anyone here knows what they can do please pass it along. The boss did not tell as I said nor offer Cobra, but I think because he needs to employ 20 people to be eligible for Cobra, and he does not employ that many. The odd things IS this....when this gets figured out, Cigna can say they want their money back for what they paid. Who they go after, I don't know? And I am wondering now if this boss put in the wrong ID numbers, (lied) to make this family think that they had ins. when in fact they did NOT. He even told the husband just this past Monday to go for his colonoscopy (yes they do that even when you have a colostomy) telling him he had ins. when in fact there was NO INS!!!!!!!! Any thoughts? If I have confused you, just ask me. I am so worried that here is a family, both age 63, and 64, I do believe and they have worked HARD and done everything right...and what if this medical emergency wipes them out? She cannot enroll for Medicare until next April, she checked.....and he is not even retired at this point. Thanks for reading as I know this was a bit long. If you know of any programs....any anything.....I would love to hear.. Thanks so much!
