Help Name Our Room

Chy has made us rooms in chat. One is the Twelve Step Room, and the other is an alternative to the twelve steps room and it can be named anything we want. Today in chat we discussed some ideas for a name. Please vote on the name(s) you prefer!

Why not call it something like... "The Terrace"-- then you could say- please join us at such n such time for a chat on the terrace...

I voted, based on the poll choices, but I like The Terrace too. Just a thought ... if there's an issue about what The Terrace is, maybe it could be titled "The Terrace (REBT)".

Now we are crystallizing. There are other approaches to sobriety besides twelve step AND REBT, and I think this forum represents all, so we have a couple of options. We can keep the chat room focused on REBT in name, or we can indicate that it is an open alternatives room, or we can play down the type of approach and call it something like The Terrace, (which is lovely and inclusive, Tam Tam), and fits in with the tone of the Village. I am good with all these choices. Or if we really want to be inclusive, we could call it Poobah's REBT Terrace.

Another thought: there is going to be a twelve-step room called as such. What if we called the room: The All-Inclusive Terrace? I kind of like that, and we can nickname it The Terrace. It accomplishes the same openness without limiting the room to an REBT focus.

I think it all depends on what will be open for discussion there. If it's only going to be REBT, then REBT should be in the name. But if other ways of recovery are talked about, shared in there, then it should be a universal name....so everyone feels welcome.

I see your point afrita. My only concern, and thought it could be for others, was that if we didn't sort of say what The Terrace is, (or whatever we call it), whether it's only REBT, or not, members might be confused as to which approache(s) are there. Other than that concern, I'm up for whatever you guys choose for the name.

This is getting complicated, and one of the nicest things about the Village is that it's such an inclusive place. All of the 12-steppers I know here are very open to whatever works, and so are the alternatives people. I am starting to wonder if maybe we are having a little trouble because we are trying to create divisions we don't need. Do we have two rooms? Could we--with all thanks to the lovely Chy--call them The Terrace and the Meeting Room, with the assumption that The Terrace is a place for chat, and the Meeting Room is a place for meetings? Could we just call them Room One and Room Two? Obviously this is contingent on whether or not the people active in the twelve-step forums feel the same way or prefer their own labelled room, which would be perfectly fine, of course!

Or do you all prefer an alternatives room and shall we continue on with the current poll/discussion?

I'm confused by the choices. I'm starting to feel that the choices are leaning towards a division. I'm not saying that is the intention. When first coming into recovery and chat rooms, I found them intimidating. If I were to see these different choices, I may feel as if I didn't belong if they are labeled program specific. Maybe that's the point. Like I said, I'm confused.

Muse, Chy saw a bunch of REBT-schooled members in the chat room last night and thought, very kindly, that she would do a couple of rooms: one for twelve-step and one other, which we can name. I hear you on the divisions, and hence my above post. Here's another idea: many twelve-steppers may be very glad to have a twelve-step room, so as an alternative, we could call our room Recovery Any Way.

More thoughts? I really thank you all so much for contributing your ideas. It means that whatever we come up with is that much more inclusive.

Yes! That way both rooms include whoever choses to pop in, without being intimidating, like Muse suggested.

It does seem to be getting complicated and it was my goal to provide MEETING rooms for different meetings so that if we wanted to hold REBT meetings and AA (12 step) meetings simultaneously we could.

As a a multi recovery site I don't want anyone to feel there is a division of membership, we're all here for recovery and how we do it is our personal choice.

So how does
Open Chat - Get together for any and everyone to just hang out and mingle.

Sure, Chy! Maybe it's possible to incorporate Tam Tam's suggestion, if you like it, and call it The Terrace: Open Chat? Or just keep it simple and call it Open Chat.
