Really Wonderful New Author

If you like mysteries, she is one to watch. Her first book won the Edgar award and was shortlisted for a few other awards. Her second--at least as far as I have read--is just as engrossing. She can WRITE--her books are beautiful prose.

Her first book, In the Woods, is a double mystery. In the 80s, three preteens go into "their" woods (their everyday, all the time woods) in rural Ireland. One is found is the woods the next day with blood pooled in his shoes, blood all over him, catatonic, mostly not his blood, with no memory. The other two are never found.

Twenty years later, the found child has become a murder detective. A murdered child is found in an archaeological site in the same woods. The police chief does not know the detective's history, and he is assigned to the case.

That is all I will say, except that: I could not wait for everyone to go to sleep when I was home. All I wanted to do was read this book. I felt a real sense of loss after finishing the book--you know how that happens with books you really love? So on the way back to Oregon, I stopped in an airport bookshop and enquired about her next book . . . and found out that it is about the main character from the first book's PARTNER! I spent $30 on the hardcover without batting an eye--that is how good she is.

Oh Awesome. My favorite author is Jodi Picout, and Ive read all her books.
I need a new author. I received several gift certificates to borders because people laugh at how I love to read, lol, I'll check her out.

No but I heard it was good.

Someone bought me this book Afrita, but I left it at their house,
so I never did get to read it, but it is still on my list.
