The Sonic Boom

I was watching TV, Roommate in the bedroom when we heard this loud explosion type noise , not to be confused with anything I've ever heard
before or an earthquake, I'm like OMG? Did we just get bombed?
My roommate who never gets freaked over anything, was like Holy?
(He was on the phone) and said my friend just heard that in North Hollywood.

So we go to the roof, there are people in the street, all over their roofs,
we were like, lol, Uh maybe we were gassed and we're all going to die?

We were all wondering what we should do, no building were down, it was
the weirdest thing, then finally the news announces the space shuttle just landed

You may or may not hear the (double) sonic boom depending on the atmosphere.

Ya think they could have warned us before? Given it is 9-11 and all.
Kind of felt like we were in a movie but real. I would feel dumb if there weren't people all over the streets and roof tops wondering the same thing.
