It has long been an axiom of mine that the little things are infinitely the most important.
-- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle This morning when I woke up I was hit with the difference now in my life. When I was drinking, I would stay in bed long after I woke, dreading getting out of bed and feeling unwell. Today I woke and stayed in bed, not because I dreaded getting out of it, but because it was so cozey. I felt good. The fleece sheets felt good. I simply wanted to continue to experience the pleasure a little longer. Then when I climbed out I realized that I still felt good. I'd had a good sleep, I was rested, I felt eager to start the day. That is a little thing - yet is more important than a lot of big things. I'm beginning to think that it is the sum of all the little positive things on which real happiness is based. A big happiness is often (if not always) transient. A big unhappiness will most often pass. The mass of little things that bring us pleasure, joy, or happiness will always be there as a firm base. Sure one or a few may go away for a while, but there are so many that there will always be some to hold on to. I'd be interested to find out what your little things are?
