Peace and Unity

I was surprised by a few inquiries about my new avatar and thought I'd share what I did about it with some others about it's meaning to me. Lord knows our world can use a little more peace and unity these days. I don't know why but the story as I see it behind it is just one of those things that touches your heart.

My avatar is a snap shot from a video Miss Done sent me awhile ago. For some reason that video, it's message is very profound to me. Miss Done posted the video this week in one of her threads. It's shot in a prison in the Philippines and for me, it expresses the unity of people in trouble ( not unlike why we are all here in the Village) and how they can come together if only briefly through dance and music to send a message of peace. Coming from a large group of inmates, well I just find it very touching as it brought back memories of working with criminal offenders with substance abuse issues and the struggle they go through just like all of us have. Sadly, for some their consequences are greater. These inmates that formed the circle of peace and unity simply touched me given their own situation and consequences. If these prisoners can come together for this one event and share the message then it's truly a beautiful example of how our power is truly within us to change.

Our ability to change is truly within, no person, program, group, can do that for us. We all find that courage, that power when given the strength to do so by what I do believe, a power greater then ourselves. We just need to listen very carefully for that message. It's there.
