Narcotics Anonymous

What is Narcotics Anonymous and who are they?

They are average people in all walks of life. They are rich, poor, healthy, sick, the people could even be your next door neighbor without even realizing it.

Narcotics Anonymous is a Program that came about from the Alcoholics Anonymous Program that was brought into light in the Mid 1930's for people who have a Problem with Alcoholism. Narcotics Anonymous sprang from the Alcoholics Anonymous Program of the late 1940s, it was based on those of us who had a problem with using drugs. Over the years it has grown in many areas of the world today.

The NA program, officially founded in 1953 and the co-founder is known as Jimmy Kinnon. Although he was a very humble man, he never thought of himself as the founder of N.A.

The Program has saved many Addicts from the depths of Active Addiction and Death. It started out with the first meeting in 1940's. By the 1950's well the meetings they had declined and they left fast. There was even a 4 month period in which there were no meetings at all in the 1959.

In 1960 was when The White Book was produced. This book became the heart of the NA Meetings and from then on they have had a steady increase in meetings around the world. Now, as of the year 2007, there were over 43,900 weekly meetings of Narcotics Anonymous.

The twelve steps of the NA program are based upon spiritual principles, three of which are honesty, open-mindedness, and willingness, embodied in the first three steps.
