'Jersey Shore' Season 2 Slouches Closer
Benjamin Franklin once famously said that the only two certainties in life are death and taxes. Were he alive today, however, he no doubt would acknowledge a third inevitability: the renewal of 'Jersey Shore.' But can 'Jersey Shore' remain a hit if you take it out of Jersey? That's one of the possibilities facing MTV, according to the Hollywood Reporter, as negotiations for a second season of the unexpected pop phenomenon continue. While the buzz around 'Jersey Shore' would seem to make the series a shoo-in for a second season, members of the cast initially balked at re-upping due to the relatively low pay structure the network employs for first year shows, jeopardizing the entire operation. Now, however, it appears as though MTV has decided to loosen their purse strings as they have upped their offer to a more palatable $10,000 per episode for each of the eight main cast members, leading sources to speculate that a deal could be reached as soon as this weekend. Once the deal is inked, however, the network will face another major question: where to film season two. That's because MTV and its parent company, Viacom, are eager to get the show, which follows the adventures of eight contentious, self-appointed "guidos and guidettes" as they fight and romance their way around a New Jersey beach community, back in production as soon as possible in order to maintain the momentum the surprise hit has generated. That, in turn, means they would need to begin filming almost immediately in order to make their goal of a summer air date, which is a problem due to the inclement weather which typically faces the Jersey shore during the winter. One possible solution being considered, therefore, is to move 'Jersey Shore' to a warmer location, a decision that would have its own drawbacks, mainly the fact that it might be hard to film a show about New Jersey in, say, Tahiti. It's too early to say yet, but our guess is that MTV will decide to leave the show in its Seaside Heights locale and instead shorten its production schedule, though the fact that only one of the eight cast members is actually from New Jersey may influence their decision. Whatever the final outcome, though, and despite the negotiation delays, it's almost certain that 'Jersey Shore' will be returning to your living rooms in one form or another for a second season. Because, after all, you can take the 'Jersey Shore' out of Jersey, but as long as Snooki and The Situation are around, you'll never be able to take the Jersey out of 'Jersey Shore.'
