When I got my DUI and the Judge ordered me to go to AA I was angry as hell.
The 1st few meetings I went with a frown on my face and an attitude.
Then, I started noticing the people who had been sober for awhile. They seemed to be different. Their faces glowed with happiness. I started listening to what they had to say.
All I had to do was be OPEN MINED and WILLING.
I am not saying AA is for everyone, but it worked for me where nothing else could.
The 1st little while was hard. After that it really has been a piece of cake.
Rocket,

I actually enjoy going to meetings. It helps me hold on to the pain, keep it fresh so to speak. Don't really have an attitude any more. It no longer bothers me to read the steps. I just don't believe they are anywhere near the whole answer for me. Some of them make sense to me (1, 4, 8, 9, 10). The rest don't.

I go to a meeting almost every day. I only miss if it's unavoidable. I almost always hear something that benifits my thinking. Also it's a socializing influence that I desperately need. I've always been a loner and extremely judgmental - hard on others, much harder on myself. Letting that go and actually listening to people, talking with them, sharing is something I'm getting better at by going to meetings.

I have learned that some of the things that work for me are best not shared. It really pisses me off when the chairperson rolls their eyes. Oh well, 'nuf said.
