It is great not thinking about alcohol all the time. Trying to manipulate every situation, so I can get my next drink. It's amazing the things I didn't think I could do without drinking...which was just about everything.

Time to renew that committment. Yes, I am quitting just for today. I really need to think of that first thing in the morning. I am glad I have so many friends here!

Yesterday was full of awful news, starting with Flowergirl, a disaster just when things were starting to look bright. Then Patty's friend ODing on heroin. Then a friend of mine called from NYC to cancel something we were doing tomorrow night because she had to go to a funeral for her neighbor who had been beaten to death for saying something that another group in the restaurant didn't like.
Meanwhile, I had a bummer of a day going to yet another doctor for my mangled right arm. BUT, I have to tell you, I started out the day feeling sorry for myself, and ended it being very grateful for another day, a day I would have thrown away thoughtlessly if I had been drinking. Instead, I found a day full of caring people (for me, for Flowergirl, for my friend) and realized how precious that is. Thanks my happy village, from me, and like Indigo, I am lighting a candle here for Flowergirl, Gianna

Thanks Indigo, but all in all the summation of my day was that it was a pretty good one; most days are pretty good without drinking.
Someone spoke to me yesterday about his fear of getting complacent about sobriety (he has 7 months). I really wanted to tell him what I believe to be the pitfall of counting and to focus on today (my purpose on this thread). Actually I did tell him that but I also realized it can be a long hard journey to come to that reality. The REBT stuff has helped me so much there...maybe I will rummage and look for something applicable... Dawg? Don? Gianna

Hey Wyoming chick,
You are not alone in this. Somehow I have managed to get a year in this time. But some days can be a bitch. I have heard that an urge last on the average 7 minutes. Some days like today I fight it. I know it is easier if I let go & let God. When it comes right down to it, it is me who has to make the choice. We are with you every step of the way.

We had a xmas party for my grandaughter last night everyone else is still in bed except me and granchild!!! Now that feels good.
