Interesting? Maybe. But definitely serious scare tactics.
Here in Canada, no H1N1 vaccinations are being given in a "non-medical setting", unless you put clinics organized by the local health authority in that category. To date, I have read that no more people have experienced a bad reaction than is the case with regular seasonal fly shots... 1 in 100,000. In Canada, one person has died from the reaction. Not exactly overwhelming. Certainly I am concerned - I do tend to react badly to vaccinations. But will probably get the shot next week anyway, when it becomes available to the general public. So far, none of my relatives who were eligible to have the shot early have had any serious reaction. zanna |

My dad had a swine flu shot today, advised by his doctor. It was given at a local grade school.....IN HIS FREAKING CAR! A healthcare worker came out to the car and gave him the shot along with my nephew's 4 year old. I didn't find out until after the fact. This is so unusual. I guess I get the fact that they were trying to keep him isolated from the mob crowd that was there, from air born germs, but in the parking lot...in his car??!!

I'm sure they were trying to assist your Dad the best they could.
I think I am going to hold off at least for this year.

Oh, no doubt, Rocketman...but just the fact that it was not given in a sterile surrounding. I mean you can't get any cleaner than my mom's car...
...but it's just not good enough, in my book.

You are too funny Velvet.
Truth is, I'll bet your Mom's car is more sterile. Hope all is well with you and your schooling.

They give the swine flu with a cotton thing in your nose here from what I've heard.
I've heard some crazy stories about this whole swine flu thing, I'm staying far away from it. I find it odd to get a shot in the car also, reminds me of the drive through in Vegas getting married, just seems odd. Would you like the supersize N1 or the regular.... But at least he got one, that's a good thing...

My daughter had "H1N1" and it wasn't too bad. My husband took our son and got him the vaccine. I wasn't sure I wanted him to have it, so I refused to take him. Never thought he'd actually take the boy to get the shot!!
I'm trying not to think about it.

Had my H1N1 shot today - no hassle, about a three minute wait! But of course we live in a small community.
Was not all that enthused about the dire warnings they felt obliged to give us re possible side effects... but have decided that I will absolutely not have any problems! 8 hours and counting... zanna |

Excellent, Zanna! Now you just have to avoid getting swine flu for the next two weeks and you will be all set! I was lucky enough to be able to get the vaccine a few weeks ago (it's in short supply here, but I carefully watched the county flu page online and slid in on the only day they were giving it to high-risk adults instead of just children and health care workers). I got the seasonal flu vaccine a few weeks before that.
I'm not so much worried for me, but both my sisters had swine flu and were really socially irresponsible, going out in public multiple times when contagious, knowingly potentially infecting many others. And one is getting a PhD in public health! Anyway, I am going to visit my parents for Christmas, and my father has many chronic health issues. He can't get flu--the consequences could be disastrous--but he can't get the vaccine either (he misses the age cutoff by a couple of years). So now I know I won't infect him, or at least am significantly less likely to infect him, after traveling with hundreds and thousands of other (potentially irresponsible, like my sisters) passengers on various planes when I go home to visit.
