Got stung by a sting ray
Before I start......... yes it was stupid of me. But being the curious, thrill seeker I am I tried to pick up a baby sting ray. It was no bigger than my hand (small female hand).
That little joker nailed me between the thumb and index finger and let me tell you about pain! My joints ached all through my hand and arm, heart was racing and the pain!!! The only thing to get rid of the pain is to make sure the stinger or sheath is not in the site, wash with freshwater that is as hot as you can stand and take a pain pill or wait out the pain. I waited out the 2 hours of pain. Lesson of the day - don't touch stuff!!

...um...I snagged a starfish at about 120 ft...
![]() Wow, yeah, that sounds exciting...and painful....I try to remember to take along a pair of pliers and a hammer(ever since I discovered wolf eels have teeth), but then, I don't do the scuba.... No lingering pain? I don't know if stingrays even really frequent the waters around here....think of the Crocodile Hunter.... love-B |

lingering pain.........no. just felt weird, sorta yuk for a while. Down here there is everything. and I have to touch everything........ the kid in me gets the best of me sometimes (most the time). But lesson learned. lol
We went on a snorkeling trip the next day to find a bull shark swimming the reef with us. I have much, much, respect for the ocean! Cool starfish! Did it live?

Amazing looking starfish. It would look cool on a mantel.
I never think of starfish as actual fish, swimming in the ocean. I alway put them in the sand dollar catagory, "neither are ocean creatures, just decoration." Can you tell I live in the city...lol

At the time, I imagined that something ate it before it hit bottom....but I got the hook straight out and it didn't seem to be adversly affected by the pressurization...120 feet is alot to be pulled straight up. And a long way to go down.
I have been bottom fishing, mostly. Drop your line and let it out until you hit the bottom and jig off the ocean floor. The lead lure must have landed right on top of it. You do see people with wet suits here sometimes, but the water is pretty cold. Swimming with the sharks would be incredible. The whales here just take my breath away. And I have run into a couple of fair sized schools of really small dolphins. Rivers to the north and south are already having their salmon runs start, and they are hitting here but still several miles out...I get about 5 miles out and start thinking it best to wait a week or 2 for them to get closer....I don't have the greatest boat....once the salmon get in the river, that fishing will go for 5-6 weeks, I think. But I'll leave the tourists to that, I'd rather be out on the boat.... Have you ever taken underwater pictures? love-B |

I always take pictures when I snorkel or dive. Except this time! We forgot the camera!
Snorkeling is the MOST relaxing thing in the world. You just float and look at mother natures beautiful creations. This is the site for where we went snorkeling: http://www.pennekamppark.com/reefanimals.html There's a picture of a ray like the one that got me
