Default Self-Esteem

All you are left with during a crisis is your conduct during it.

Two of the most important treasures we have in life are our relationship with our Creator, or God, and our relationship with ourselves. Both are facts of our existence and both can be ignored or tampered with for long periods of time.

Crisis times are opportunities that life gives us to see where we really stand. A time of crisis offers us the opportunity to slip into behaviors we do not like in ourselves and others, and feel justified in doing so. Whenever we can adopt the victim role for ourselves, we feel justified in becoming perpetrators. If someone is trying to "get us", we use the occasion to feel perfectly justified in "getting them".

What a lapse of our self-esteem! After all the dust clears, all we really have left is ourselves. We have to live with ourselves. Hopefully, we have acted in such a way as to maintain a good relationship with our Creator "and" ourselves.

When I like and trust myself, everything else seems to fall into place.
