At Center for Change, Dr. Hawkins has developed a comprehensive body image program that focuses on the media, diet industry, plastic surgery, childhood issues, and learning to appreciate one's body. Tune in for an informative discussion. Just a Few Facts, Listen for More... 86% of Women in the United States "Hate their bodies".60% of Men are dissatisfied with your body. In a study only 2% of women in the entire world felt "Beautiful" 0% in Japan 6% (Highest) in Brazil (Highest % of plastic surgery) 20% of women will miss their annual Doctor's Check up because they don't want to be weighed. When does a dysfunctional relationship with food become an eating disorder? When it impacts relationships or your way of life. I.E. Stop going to gatherings, stop going on dates, afraid to see friends, stop wearing certain clothes, getting on the scale several times a day, won't go around a swimming pool etc. A person who is dissatisfied with her body doesn't let it affect their life. Teenagers fall into the trap of if I change my body then I'll increase my self esteem. If their self esteem is already low, many will target their bodies to raise their self esteem. Teasing within the family, peers, best friends leads to bad body image. The images in the media today are the thinnest they have ever been. Miss Congeniatyly (Sandra Bullock) had 5 body doubles to play her to give her the "Perfect Body". When Jennifer Aniston was on friends she worked out 8 hours a day to stay that thin. When she was on the cover of Redbook they still used a body double for her as her body still wasn't good enough for them. By 5 years old 14% of girls are dieting By 9 50% By 10 80% The average person sees 5000 images a day, 600 are the thin ideal body type, 95% of those images are airbrushed to be perfect. Only 1.4% of people in the "Entire" would can 'ever' look like that. The media's job is to convince you that if you Improve your body you will feel better... "Their product will imrove your body." ETC..... Listen for more....
