Beautiful Boy

I just started reading this book beautiful boy. It's about a father journey through his sons addiction. Anyone else reading it or have read it? I'm finding the beginning a bit boring.

I started reading it a couple of days ago. Not sure I have an opinion on it yet. Many of the places/experiences he describes are places I lived or things I did, so it sort of resonates for me in an odd way. I was wondering though how other readers might react, especially readers who couldn't relate to his experiences.

lemme know what you think as you get further into the book. I just started on the chapter about his son's drug of choice, meth.

I started reading it a while ago but didn't get very far...I just picked it up again and now I can't put it down. It definitely gets better.

I saw them on Opera and watched it a few times.

I used to be obsessed with books about eating disorders and meth,
but now I find that I get so triggered, it's too much for me..

The last meth book I read was sooo good but left me cringing after every
line in the book for a line...
So far I haven't decided to read either the Father or the Sons books.

But I think it's great he's doing so well, I think we are close in our sobriety
time...

I am reading it and the one his son wrote at the same time ha ha. I read for a while in one then go to the other. It kinda goes in sequence so it is interesting to see both sides thinking.

Interesting Rose. I recently finished Beautiful Boy and thought it was pretty good. I hadn't read anything about meth addiction, or any book about a parent's struggles with an addicted child. I thought it was pretty interesting, and a helpful perspective.

I just read both books, and could not put them down. Very intense. Beautiful Boy resonated with me somehow, even though I am not the parent of an addict. I think on some level, it gave me insight into what my parents went through with my brother so many years ago...? (Not to mention the hell I would put my loved ones through if I went full-bore back into alcoholic activity. UGH.)

The book by the son (Tweak - Growing Up on Meth) was a rougher read, and I can imagine it would be a HUGE trigger for anyone who's ever struggled with that sort of addiction--the author repeatedly describes using in explicit detail. For this reason, I would not recommend it to an addict, but think it would probably be a valuable read for anyone who loves someone who's struggled with meth.

by David Sheff

Almost finished reading this one. Definitely a good book for any meth addict to read, I am thankful I was never a chronic relapser like that, and reading it only reminded me what hell it was doing that drug. I can only imagine how confusing it would be for any one who loves someone involved with that drug. What a nightmare.

I remember when I was looking for help I read the same thing David Sheff kept hearing and reading, meth addicts are hopeless causes, they never get better, they don't stay recovered, they relapse, they die, they can't get better with only 1 month rehab, the worst possible recovery out of all drugs, etc.
Too bad they don't have more positive outcomes of people who have recovered and have stayed in recovery because that does happen also. Kind of frusting to know that meth addicts are still reading that.

I was going to read tweak but I keep hearing how triggering it is, so even thought I rarily get triggered anymore, think I'll pass....... Thanks for the warning on it.
