I reckon all relationships go through hard times and whatever choices are made the memories and hurts still need to heal. Whether it's with the same person or with someone new I feel strongly that to get past and get over hurt takes good communication.
So I thought I'd try to think up what my top tips would be in the hope that everyone makes the list grow till we have the mother of all communication handy hints guides! * No tit for tat. * Sit down, have time, ask for time. * Try to understand the other's point of view first before explaining my own. * If it means saying something critical trying to 'sandwich' the criticism between at least 2 positives - not for them, this is for me to remind myself not to focus on JUST the problem. * Trying to explain how I feel rather than explaining what someone else is doing. * Reflection - if it goes wrong what could I have done? NOT what could they have done. Ok that's all I can think of for now - any others out there? |
