The further misadventures of Princess YSKB, part deux

When last we left our heroine, Princess You Should Know Better, she had injured her slightly more than middle aged knee while indulging her inner child and playing with another, much younger princess. Her inner child remains grounded until age 40. Younger Princess, while still feeling a slight case of the guilts, is otherwise doing well and still uses her Royal Trampoline regularly despite predictions of doom from our heroine. Our sheepish heroine had been mocked by many of her subjects for her immature behavior, (in a loving way, of course) and had been remanded to the Royal Torture Chamber for therapeutic preparation for surgery to rebuild said knee. Let us check in on her today, three and a half days post op:

Ye Olde Royal Witch Doctor has proclaimed the operation a success, and has requested the pleasure (in whose mind, I am not sure) of a revisit by Princess YSKB on July 30th, at which time she will find out when she can resume her royal duties and commence driving the royal chariot, which has sat patiently awaiting her return since last Friday. We are assuming at this time that visits to the Royal Torture Chamber will resume for a period of at least three months. Right now, the knee and most of her right leg has the appearance of a multicolored tree trunk, and the Princess has vowed never to complain about her legs being chunky again. She was overheard remarking to the king that her left leg, in comparison, looked downright skinny these days. The Princess reports very little pain today and has discontinued use of the powerful medicines the Royal WD had prescribed because they gave her the itchies. (opiates will do that to you--ughh!!)

The Princess has had many calls from well wishers in the last several days, and is welcoming assistance from some of her subjects. It has always been very difficult for her to ask for help, being an independent sort of Princess, but this has been a lesson well learned in allowing people to step up and help. Her newest favorite toy is this contraption, a cryopack which hooks up to her brace (hereby renamed The Abomination because of its weight and unsightly appearance) and a cooler full of ice with a machine that pumps water into the cryopack to steadily ice the sore areas. Overall, the Princess is in fairly good spirits, albeit cranky from a lack of sleep due to being forced to sleep in The Abomination until next week. She is catching up on her reading, watching movies and trying very hard to make the best of this debilitating period, taking this time to relax, write a little and really think about where the rest of her royal life is headed and what changes she may want to make when she is back on her feet. She has developed quite a knack for navigating the royal staircase on crutches and is convinced now that she will not starve and die up in the royal tower, so that is making her happy. All in all, it could have been worse, and she has truly learned her lesson about pushing her body to do stupid things that are best left to younger, more agile princesses.
