Default Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Nowadays, most of the people are suffering mainly from stress related problems and in medical terms stress is being classified into different types like addiction disorders, Post-Traumatic stress disorders, co-occurring disorders, sleep disorder, etc… This article deals with the PTSD and addiction co-occurring disorders.

PTSD: -
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD is an incapacitating condition, which affects people who have faced major traumatic events like murder, wartime combat, torture, etc… in their life. PTSD is characterized by blunting of emotions, recurrent flash back of traumatic events, forgetfulness, fatigue, upsetting memories and even severe personality changes as well in some people.

Symptoms of PTSD:-
One of the most troubling symptoms of PTSD is recurring flashback, which can be activated by smells, images, sounds or feelings. When the person gets the remembrance of the flash back, he might lose touch with the present situation totally and might suffer through the trauma for hours together and he will start believing that the event is actually taking place in the present. Some other symptoms like sleep disorders, intense distress, avoidance of thoughts surrounding the trauma, etc…might also occur. Strong reactions to unexpected noises, hyper-alertness, concentration and memory problems are also symptoms of PTSD. Even, some patients might behave violently.

Medications and therapy for PTSD:-
Medications for PTSD might include antidepressants and anxiety-reducing medication. Anti-anxiety drugs like benzodiazepine will be prescribed by the physician. But, medication will be prescribed only in worst cases. People who are in the initial stages are treated with the help of psychotherapy, behavioral therapy, spiritual healing, etc…
