Default New Year, New Beginnings

Hey everyone..
Just wanted to post a little something for all of us struggling with our loved one's addiction.

A lot of time has gone by in my situation, and rather we are old hats at this, or new, we all share in the same pain and the same need of support.

For 2010, I am making a huge effort to think about each day as a brand new day, and I wake each morning trying to set a new tone for myself. If I find that I am having a rough day, I try to set that tone as "gentle", so that I remember to be kind and gentle to myself that day.

If I wake feeling afraid, I try to set a tone of "faith" keeping in mind my serenity prayer and remembering that I have the ability to give this all to my Higher Power.

If for some reason I wake feeling tired, I set the tone as one of "easy does it"

Those are just some wee examples of what I am trying to give myself for this upcoming year. I had much go on in 2009, and I lost myself all over again.

Maybe you can join me in 2010, trying to take the very BEST care of yourself that you can. Remember, a drowning person cannot save a drowning person. We have no control over our loved one's addiction. We cannot change them, and we cannot love them into recovery. But we do have a lot of choices for ourselves that will make our lives different.
And by doing so, by taking care of ourselves, we are in return giving much back to the world, and we are being very loving towards our loved ones who are very sick and in need of healing.

My new mantra is this "No means love. No is a full sentence, and No, does not require and explanation.

Thanks for taking time to read...
