living with a difficult person

I just realized that the happiest time in my life (except for my first boyfriend) was with a gay man. He was interested in things, enthusiastic about life... had his affairs and I, mine, but when it came to living life, we enjoyed each other so much we did most things together.

The man I am with now (at 65) will never be the "love of my life" but he is a good person who has put up with a lot of bad behavior on my part with addiction (yes I know that was my choice but a lot of that behavior came from being bored with HIM). And feeling "stuck" by money, age...

You sound a bit younger and if you can start building a life you like perhaps the best thing is to leave. Right now I would love to go back 8+ years to my solitary life that was very rich with friends and interests and my work... and dating! The internet is great for this. It was so exciting to get up each morning to see what the email brought.

If you have not been happy for so many years I cannot believe it will get better. consider leaving.
