Default new here, am reconnecting to sober spouse after 5yrs

i am new here and need some support/advice on how to reconnect with my now sober spouse. i made him leave because of drinking, we were together for 9 yrs. we have been apart for 5 yrs, i haven't spoken to him until i contacted him last month. he has been sober for 3 yrs, seems like a different person when i talk to him. we want to try again, he wants to go slowly, as do i.

has anyone reconnected with a now sober spouse? we were good friends when he was sober, the booze made him irrational and depressed, typical alchololic. i have been in touch with alanon, but no meetings close to where i live and i can't get away in the evenings.

i am a different person (more self esteem, know how to make boundries, take responsibility for my own faults and am a much happier and calm person), he seems to be calmer, much more mature and is working in aa on his steps.

he was never violent, just behaved badly, lots of yelling, wreckless behavior in the past when drinking.

i do want to take it slowly but don't want to have unrealistic expectations either. have a good friend that's sober for 20 yrs keeping an eye out for me, but i'd like to hear from people on my side of the fence as well.

any feedback would be appreciated,

thanks, rosie
(ps, all of the sudden i had the feeling that i was ready to call him after all this time, nothing happened in my life to cause it, i guess it's unfinished business)
