good news feed DWI!
Unfortunately the "addict in disguise" is the reason that people with serious chronic pain have to do all the dances to have it treated
When it is appopriate, you do not get euphoric, nor does it alter your ability to function, you do not need higher & higher amounts & other drug seeking (addiction) behavior is not part of your daily MO. Instead the opposite is true, it enhances the ability of the very gravely ill with serious chronic pain to function at some level & often be productive again.

Thank you, Done....!
People.....addicts....seems like the "goal" is to feel no pain. Example...I have 2 ruptured discs in my neck. This causes me to have "bad" headaches. I, at first thought I had a brain tumor. I went to the doctor...which ended in him trying different medications, for chronic pain. Surgery will come later, but not until I have to. I did not like taking the pills, even though, without them, I have neck pain/head pain, pressure....but I have learned to "deal" with this pain. Somehow, it has just become, part of ME! I suppose, this is a case of....to each is own. Having said this...I hope I do not come across as being judgemental...I know there are legitimate needs, for "pain killers"....I just have not choosen, that path! |

Your welcome Lena!

It's funny though because my mom drinks a lot, and she also has a few ruptured discs, she has TONS of pain pills in her closet, but she won't take them. She is afraid of getting addicted and she doesn't like how they make her feel. Interesting hu.

Thanks for the link DW.
I am an alcoholic, I believe I have been alcoholic since I had my first drink of alcohol. I used other drugs during my drinking career, but these were all drugs that "allowed me to drink more", rofl. Today, yes I am many years sober. I have health issues, I have been classified disabled. I live with chronic pain that is horrible. I have a high tolerance for pain, always have had, but I MUST use some prescribed pain killers to keep enough of a blanket on the pain to function. My doctor knows MY FULL HISTORY. My doctor is FULLY AWARE of the possiblity I could becme addicted. However, my doctor is also aware that I use as few of them as I possible can (way below what is prescribed) and has no concerns at this time. I do it this way because I do not want to become immune to the only pain killer that is helping me. I cannot take oxycontin, hydrocodone and percodan are like candy. Even methadon and morphine do nothing. If my current pain killer in conjunction with my neurontin stops workig, the only thing left for me is the fentynal patches. I know what those do, and I do not want to have to go there. You see, until I could no longer work I did private home care for the terminally ill and the totally incapacitated, I am well aware of what pain killers can do to a person, both phsically and mentally. My big concerns with the "over prescribed" pain medications done by so many doctors, is that the state and federal governments will step in and then, those of us who truly do need pain medication to function will be penalized big time. I don't have the answers, I wish I did. I'm afraid though that the whole industriy and pain pill addiction is headed for a great big shake up and the fall out is going to be tremendous. JMHO Love and (((((to all))))),

Agreed....and during that shakeup...I hope the "dope peddling" doctors are hit the hardest! They do such an injustice to the people who, truly, need pain relief. |
