How i got Sober

Hi to everyone, My name Bill and here is my story on getting sober. I started drinking about the age of 13 and i loved the taste of beer i dranked all of my beer and got drunk and it was for me. Throughout my teenage year's i dranked on the weekends. When i turned 18 i was off to the the bars to drink the drinking age back then was 18. Everytime i would drink i got drunk. I remember telling my first wife this alot of times it was me my beer and my weed and then her. I went into the Navy and i dranked even more i thourht i was in heaven. When i got out i was a full blown drunk. As the years went by i got all together 4 DUI'S I went to 3 rehab's and they didn't work for me. In 1998 i was faceing 3year's in prison but i had a good lawyer. I had enough of getting in trouble so in the year 2,000 i got sober and that day was September 17, 2,000. I have been Sober now for 9 year's and i wouldn't give it up for anything. Life is good and God is with me all of the time.

That's a good, inspiring story, Bill. Thanks for sharing. I hear a lot about people coming out of the military with full-blown addictions in tow.... and I have known some of them, too. I don't know if it was "the long arm of the law" that contributed to your decision to become sober, but I think for many, it's had some pull (no pun intended).

Thank's for all of your suport. Rocketman i didn't get in a accident i got really sick with liver lung spleen problums that i couldn't work anymore. It is due to all of my drinking. Hey Chy soo good to see you i missed you and i am glad to be back.

It is going good i have to take med's but some day's are bad with pain and i feel like crap but i keep going on. I still go to meetings and ride my Harley as much as i can. I love being in the wind. Rocketman if I can stay sober you and anyone else can that is if you really want to. Thank's for being here for me.

My daughter, not so lucky...1 1/2 to 7. She is serving her time now in prison.
I keep hoping her time is coming for sobriety.

Hi Hope, Thank's for shareingthat with me it has to be hard on you and i know that it stinks. With alot of prayers and staying sober maybe she will get and stay clean. I don't share this much at all my wife couldn't or wouldn't stop useing and the end result was she over dosed and died. It will be 3 years come this Jan. So no matter what happends in our lives we don't pick up.

My Gosh..............I am SO very sorry about your wife. I don't remember that...so if you had shared before I apologize for not remembering. You are right Bill....the choices are so limited...
SOBER is the only answer..

This is how we stay sober talking about what's going on in our lives. I know that for me it works for me and praying for one another going to meetings and haveing friends here and at home. Thank you for being here for me.

I remember, a long time ago the kindness of others when I felt that I was drowning in my pain. One promise that I made to myself was that I would always extend a hand whenever I could. I think we take turns with one another..and you are right...it does help us. There is to me, SUCH power in prayers...

It still amazes me, the strength we build with others by our side...

That is so true when we help others we help ourselves. You know what they say live and let live. I hope that you are doing better today.

I am taking really good care of "me" today. Sometimes I forget to do that. I got up early, finished my housework (which I find relaxing...strange I know! lol) had a nice long hot shower and now that I have my nails painted, and my pretty perfume on, I feel really good. Just a little something for me.
A warm cup of coffee is keeping me company with my blankie.
Tomorrow is laundry day...but for the rest of the day, I am going to relax and listen to the rain.

Yes, I have things in the "back" of my mind. But maybe "back" is the operative word and that is a good thing for now.

Sounds like you have a nice plan going for you today. All i am doing is just about the same thing except for the plankie and no rain just sunshine here.
