I believe this is what Don refers to when he talks about a firm commitment to abstinence. We must commit to sobriety without reservation and then do whatever it takes to uphold that commitment - one day at a time.
As soon as a tiny reservation enters our mind, the obsession grows until we either squash it with reaffirming our commitment OR we drink.
