How soon forgotten

I went to a bar/grill last night with several friends to play pool. They are heading
off to finals and need all the practice time they can get.
This is a place that I rarely frequent anymore. John used to go there all the time
as it was the closet bar to where we lived. He spent tons and I mean tons of
money there. The owner of the place was there.....I asked him if he missed
John, (I meant it in a sarcastic way....like lost some income, as he probably
payed your mortgage here every month.) He said he couldn't place who I was
talking about.....holy crap how is that possible...the man sat here daily spending
loads of money getting so wasted that you had to call me on several occassions
to pick him up and you can't remember him????
How sad that John left little or no impression on this person...good or bad.
It just kind of amazed me.....oh and yes he remembered me.
