Narcotics Anonymous Basic Text

Quote:
Pg xi - "The full fruit of a labor of love lives in the harvest, and that always comes in its right season...."

Very inspirational is that quote I believe. It is great to know that when it is time than the harvest is ready to be picked. I guess I look at it like it takes what it takes to get where we are! And for this gift of being clean, I am ever so GRATEFUL!

Love Vic

Basic Text Pg 86

Quote:
Recovery begins with surrender. From that point, each of us is reminded that a day clean is a day won. In Narcotics Anonymous, our attitudes, thoughts and reactions change. We come to realize that we are not alien and begin to understand and accept who we are.
One thing that I am reminded of everyday is that recovery doesn't happen if we don't stay clean. That has to be first and foremost for without that we will not survive.

"Sharing with fellow addicts is a basic tool in our program. This help can only come from another addict. It is this help that says "I have had something like that happen to me, and I did this...." For anyone who wants our way of life, we share experience, strength, and hope instead of preaching and judging."
This is one of the main tools in recovery IMO! My counselor used to say that if it isn't coming out of your mouth or you are not writing about what is going on then you are holding it in. I think that so many times we forget that one of us can best understand and help another. For sharing is caring.

"The only requirement for membership is the desire to stop using."

Quote:
This tradition is important for both the individual and the groups. Desire is the key word; desire is the basis of our recovery.

Quote:
"Rebellion is a character defect that spoils us here. We need not loose faith when wee become rebellious. Rebellion can produce indifference or intolerance which can be overcome by persistence effort. We keep asking for willingness. We may be doubtful that God will see fit to relieve us or that something will go wrong. We ask another member who says, "You're right where you're suppose to be."

NA Basic Text Pg 87

Quote:
"In our recovery, we find it essential to accept reality. Once we can do this, we do not find it necessary to use drugs in an attempt to chance our perceptions."
When I look back at my clean time over the past almost 5 years. Yes I relapsed but the point here is that I always thought that you should always be happy, joyous, and free all of the time. What I have come to realize that this was a ideal that I always thought that I should be always happy.

This is not only an ideal but unrealistic expectation on myself and on others. The point for me was when I could finally say, "Yes today isn't that good of a day, however this too will pass. Grateful today that I do have a Program and try to follow the spiritual principles in all of my affairs, and realizing also that I am human and am going to make mistakes.

NA Basic Text Pg 103

Quote:
"Narcotics Anonymous offers addicts a program of recovery that is more than just a life without drugs."
This has been very true for me this time around, for this time I am learning to enjoy my recovery and to do things different than I ever have before. One thing is that this time around our Group is doing fun things like bowling once a month, having a dinner together once in awhile, etc. These things I have never participated in before and this time I am open to learning to have fun with my recovery.

I know that today life is bringing on a whole new meaning and a whole new understanding as to what life is. Grateful to be of service and clean another day.

Basic Text Pg 37

Quote:
"The degree of harm can range from making someone feel mentally uncomfortable to inflicting bodily injury or even death."
Since I am now actually trying my best to work the Program to the best of my ability and listing all the people that I have harmed. This quote above which is from Step 8 in Narcotics Anonymous Basic Text has really made me think about all of the damage that I have done but at the same time what I am now doing has impacted my recovery to let me know that there is ways in which to make amends when I get there.

I am so grateful to be finally in recovery and not just around recovery. The steps that I have worked so far has given me such a insight as to what life is truly about and am so grateful that I am aware of so much more of myself today. I owe this to my HP, and all of the people in the program and the steps, sponsorship, etc. Very grateful recovering addict here!

Narcotics Anonymous Pg 86

Quote:
"Now we know that the time has come when that tired old lie, 'Once an addict, always an addict', will no longer be tolerated by either society or the addict himself. We do recover."
In my own opinion I think that this statement here tells it all, once we have finally surrendered and have done our best to live by spiritual Principles. This hit me hard when I read and and I truly believe that now that we have a solution that the problem really doesn't exist unless we dwell on it.

I am very grateful to be in recovery today and to know that I can recovery if I am willing to do the footwork.

With Love and Respect

Vic

The program works today as well as it ever did. By taking stock of our day, getting honest about our part in it, and surrendering to reality, we can survive the feelings life throws our way.
That is one of my biggest issues is getting honest on my own part. I can easily see what there fault was, but I don't want to believe that I have a part in it. When in reality my part in it is usually the cause of things happening. It is my own actions or inaction that make my part.

As long as we maintain an attitude of thankfullness for being clean, we will find it is easier to remain clean.

One thing that was impressed upon me and drilled into my head is to find things to be Grateful for and be thankful for.

There is a old man LMAO and I think I am OLD!> In the meetings who long life AA wife of around 30 years died a few years back. All those years and he shows up at the meeting and says, like he usually does, "We have to be GRATEFUL for everything in our lives."

Even with him loosing his partner, and knowing the pain in which he is going through still today, he is a role model of carrying the Message that we don't have to drink or use no matter what! He is truly a walking Big Book whoops Basic text

Quote:
As our recovery progressed, we became increasingly aware of ourselves and the world around us. Our needs and wants, our assets and liabilities, were revealed to us. We came to realize that we had no power to change the outside world; we could only change ourselves. The program of Narcotics Anonymous provides an opportunity for us to ease the pain of living, through spiritual principles.

NA Basic Text
More Will Be Revealed
Page: 97

Boy now aint that the truth! The only thing I don't really agree with and this is just my own opinion as of today, willing to change...That WE can't CHANGE ourselves WE HAVE TO find a POWER GREATER than ourselves and the only Power that I've ever found is the Lord God Himself...

Without Him we are doomed...
