Training blog!

I figured I’d start a training blog. I am going to post my daily exercise routines, food intake and any fun fitness info I might come across. Feel free to join in and let everyone know what you are doing. My hope is that we can learn from each other.

I’ll start tomorrow. Anyone interested in doing it with me?

hmmmm....great idea leaf!

I'm not sure how much I will participate here, but this does sound like a good thing to keep in the forefront of my peabrain. I think I'll just focus on the activity part of it for now though, and take baby steps if that's OK with you guys!

Walked at least 2.5 - 3 miles between walking the pups and fetching/working the pony.
Did 2 sets of 4 reps of pony leg lifts while cleaning his feet. I figure his feet must weigh at least 10 pounds each (His total weight is about 1200 pounds.) I suppose though I am supposed to do those lifts above my head eh? Not gonna happen, but perhaps I should think of that exercise as a curl, LOL

Morning Guys!

Ok here is my routine:

Diet

There are some guidelines I try to adhere to each day. I eat 5 times a day. There is a protein at all meals except for my 10 am pre workout meal. Any sugar that I have during the day I have before 4pm. The sugar I have comes from good sources like whole grain cereal, fruits, and low sugar protein shakes. My first meal takes place at 8 am and I eat nothing past 6 pm. I drink 3 liters of water every day. I don’t watch my carbs. The carbs that I have come from good sources (fruit, whole grain cereal etc.). If you are eating well you are getting good carbs. Dinner is my hardest meal to plan. We have 3 kids, lots of activities and I am assistant coach on two of my son’s teams. I make the best possible choice I can in the situation I am in. In other words, the nights that we do take out I am a pain in the ass for the restaurant. Saturdays I don’t plan food or formally exercise. I don’t eat junk food that day, but I am more liberal with how much I eat. I don’t drink caffeine. The most soda I will have is one can of something diet and caffeine free per day. Most days I try not to have any.

Tuesday 3/27/07

First thing in the morning I have a 12 oz glass of orange juice

8:00am – 2 cups of Kashi golean crunch cereal – 26 grams of protein 20 grams of fiber

10:00am- one organic red delicious apple and a sandwich baggie of carrot sticks with 2 teaspoons of Nature’s promise organic balsamic vinaigrette. (Essential fats in the dressing which help with fat loss)

1:00pm – Chicken and vegetable soup. My wife makes it low sodium and we freeze lunch size servings to bring to work. One serving (16 pieces) of pretzles (I have snyder's fat free nuggets today)

3:00pm – Myoplex lite 11oz. ready to drink chocolate fudge shake.

6:00pm –I think tonight will be whole wheat pasta with grilled chicken and vegetables (I’ll let you know what really happens).

Water in take – I have a half liter in the car on the way to work, a liter before my noon work out, a liter before I leave work and a half liter sometime at night usually while watching TV.

Exercise:
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are weight training days.
Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays are Cardio days.
I take a kickboxing class Monday nights (real kick boxing with sparring and focused bag work)
I take a Kempo Karate class Wednesday nights

Tuesday 3/27/07
Cardio day. I go to the gym at noon and do a half hour on the recumbent bike. I set the bike to random to get in interval training (periods of fast and slow)

Tonight I help out with my son’s baseball practice so I will be running my heiney off there as well.

Be strong today guys!

Motivaional quote!

Quote:
The successful person has the habit of doing the things failures don't like to do. They don't like doing them either, necessarily. But their disliking is subordinated to the strength of their purpose."

- E.M. Gray
This concept is something that every person I know who maintains a healthy life style lives by. My karate school has it posted as one of the rules of the school. The head instructor constantly drives home the point that "success comes from doing the things you know you are supposed to do, especially when you don't want to."

Live by this creed and I guarantee you will only increase your motivation. Many days I don't feel like going to the gym, but my motivation increase once I get there and I am always proud of myself for getting my a$$ to work hard.

Action breeds motivation.

Have a great day guys

well, since I'm the only one doing horse leg lifts as part of my workout routine, I'm gonna say that those lifts are 20 pounds each!!!!

Now, how am I gonna count the actual time spent riding? It's both cardio and strength training

I have no idea how to quantify it cody

But I am sure that if you flipped it and the horse rode you, it would be 100 times the workout!

No doubt about that one leaf!!! Yikes, even hauling his 90 pound bales of hay is a workout! I suppose I should start eating like he does too....that would shed some pounds quickly indeed. A little grain, protein and vitamins twice a day with unlimited roughage the rest of the day, and plenty of fresh water.

I'm always thinkin' about how much I learn from my pony, and that's just one more example.

BTW, I like that quote by EM Gray. As wonderful as riding may sound to some, there are plenty of days when I have to drag my a$$ out to the barn. Knowing that my equine buddy is relying on me to be there for him helps get me outta the house on some days. It's a good partnership.

Gotta run to work now, but will try and get in a walk during lunch

Hey purrdy,
Give yourself some credit. I am not exactly sure what a "bickie" is but it scares me a little and good for you for staying the heck away from it

Baked fish and potatoes doesn't sound that unhealthy to me. Were the potatoes baked as well?

Potatoes get a bad rap given the recent low carb Fatkins craze. It has to do with their high glycemic index. But having them a couple of times a week isn't unhealthy at all. Actually they are a good source of Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Copper, Potassium, Manganese and Dietary fiber!

Eating healthy can be a struggle. Keep working at it and you'll get there

Part of what I think is very valuable to having any training journal like this is to take a close look at what happened each day. I got this from one of the fitness books I read (BFL or BFFM I can’t recall which). The exercise is basically to answer three questions every morning.
1. What did I do well yesterday?
2. What could I have done better?
3. What can I plan to do really well today?

Here are my answers for today:

Wednesday 3/28/07

1. Yesterday I really worked out hard. I had a high level of intensity at the gym for my cardio workout and maintained it throughout. I ran my butt off at my son’s baseball practice. I remember before I got in shape I could never do that and would get winded pretty fast. I take some pride in noticing the difference now.

2. What could I have done better? Well after baseball practice all the other kids were headed for the fitness castle of the antichrist. The Parthenon of fatitude. The evil dreaded….

MCDONALDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arhghhhhhhh!

Leaf runs away like a little pansy.

Well my son wanted to go with them, he’s 8. I am far from the biggest craphead on the planet so I couldn’t tell him no. So we went. I ordered the Yogurt and walnut “healthy” thingie they have there and had 4 of my son’s French fries (damn they tasted good). I had a diet coke as well. So I had sugar after 4, no vegetable, 4 french fries and caffeine.

Lesson learned! Next practice I pack a bag dinner just in case.

3. Today I take a Kempo class. I am going to really be focused there and get a great work out from it. I also get to punch things, which is always a plus!

Ok, be strong today guys. I’ll post my diet/exercise plan a little later...

Now that I agree with it's been a couple years since I ate in the evil den. That stuff really makes me feel bad!

Though I haven't updated it in a couple of days this is the best free online journal for health and fitness I have found. (Thanks to Done)
